The attack at Las Ramblas near Barcelona, Spain, comes amidst a time of increased terrorism-related incidents in Europe. The use of vehicular terrorism, in particular, has been on the increase.

The attack at Las Ramblas near Barcelona, Spain, comes amidst a time of increased terrorism-related incidents in Europe. Aside from the likes of the attack on the Bataclan theatre in Paris, which involved the use of heavy assault weapons, the use of vehicular terrorism, in particular, has been on the increase.

Here's a brief timeline of some such terrorist attacks in 2017:

Paris on August 9: Seven people were injured near Paris, France, as a car rammed into a group of soldiers before fleeing the scene. A suspect was later shot and taken into custody.

Hamburg on July 28: One person died and six were seriously injured in a stabbing incident at a supermarket.

Brussels on June 20: An attack by a terrorist who managed to detonate a small bomb at a train station was thwarted despite the man wearing a suicide vest. He was shot by guards and was the only casualty.

Paris on June 19: A car stocked with gas cylinders rammed into a police van at the historic Champs-Elysees area. Only the attacker died. ISIS suspected to be behind the attack. 

London on June 19: A man drove into a crowd emerging from a Mosque. One person died and at least 10 were injured. Attacker was a lone-wolf.

London on June 3: Terrorists in a van ran over multiple pedestrians on London Bridge before stabbing several people. Were shot down by the police. The attack saw 8 people being killed and 48 sustaining injuries. ISIS (Islamic State for Iraq and Syria) is suspected to be responsible.

Manchester on May 22: A suicide bomber blew himself up at the end of an Ariana Grande concert. 22 people were killed and over 100 sustained injuries. The Islamic State for Iraq and Syria (ISIS) claimed responsibility.
