South Korean Foreign Minister, Chung Eui-yong said he is "curious" about the newly formed AUKUS alliance between the U.S., United Kingdom and Australia.

"We just hope that the decision will contribute to peace and stability in the region. We hope the decision won't disturb the situation in the region," said Chung.

Chung also told an audience at the Council on Foreign Relations that the international community should not be "timid" about offering incentives to North Korea.

"We should also consider presenting a windows to relax sanctions. Depending on their actions," said Chung, but he also said that the U.S. is not ready to take steps towards easing sanctions.

Chung also said Korea is eager to establish a "future oriented" relationship with Japan.

"There are some thorny issues for us to sort out, including the comfort women issue and also forced labor issue during the colonial period. And we think that those past issues can be can be dealt with through dialog between the two authorities, but there is a lot of other areas for Japan and Korea should cooperate. What do you say for future oriented relationship between Japan and Korea," said Chung.

Chung also said China wants to join the trade agreement known as CPTPP. The US withdrew from the partnership under President Donald Trump.
