Saudi King hosts CIA chief Haspel after Twitter spying charges

King of Saudi Arabia, Prince Mohammed Bin Salman Al Saud hosted the Central Investigation Agency's chief on November 7, according to Saudi Arabia's state media. The meeting was held in Riyadh which was attended by a lot of Saudi officials including Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and intelligence chief Khalid Al-Humaidan. This comes after three people were accused in the US with spying on Twitter users who were critical of the Saudi royal family. The King and CIA Chief Gina Haspel talked on a number of topics of mutual interest according to Saudi officials. However, no official details of the meeting were disclosed.

The officials expect all their citizens to act in accordance with the laws

A senior Saudi official on the condition of anonymity said that the kingdom had not yet looked at the criminal complaint. The officials said that they expect all their citizens to act in accordance with the laws of the countries in which they reside. The three people including two former Twitter employees allegedly worked to disclose the ownership details behind dissident Twitter accounts on behalf of someone that prosecutors designated "Royal Family Member-1". According to reports, the latter is known to be Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the kingdom's de facto ruler.

US-Saudi ties strained since last year

The relations between the two allies, US Saudi have been strained last year over the brutal murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi. Khashoggi was a critic of the price of Prince Mohammed who was killed and dissected inside the kingdom's consulate in Istanbul. The CIA has reportedly put up the facts that the prince himself was closely linked to the murder, an accusation that was blatantly refuted by Riyadh. The Saudi official said that President Donald Trump's administration was aware that Saudi Arabia is taking steps to deal with the issue. He said that people are recognising that a trial is on the progress and it was a blunder that should not have happened.
