Passengers on an ALK Airlines flight had to go through a mid-air horror as turbulence hit them hard on Sunday. A video taken by a passenger shows the air stewardess being slammed to the ceiling due to the disastrous effect of the turbulence.
The turbulence took everyone by surprise, with most passengers failing to remain calm amid the violent shaking of the flight. Even though most of the people belted themselves in, there still appeared to be a nervous air amid the uncertainty over what would happen next. The passengers were on board a plane from Pristina in Kosovo to Basel in Switzerland when the turbulence struck.
A scary 30-second video tweeted by a Twitter handle called Airport Webcams that was shot by a passenger named Mirjeta Basha went viral on social media and sent chills down netizens' spines. The visuals show the flight attendant's drinks cart hitting the ceiling, herself included. The injured flight attendant was doing her duty despite the turbulence, collecting glasses and drinks from fliers.
The video also showed the eatables and drinks from the cart spilling all over the passengers as they screamed. Another visual shows a lady who was praying. Some passengers also appeared to be scalded by the hot water that spilled from the drinks cart. A spokesperson for the EuroAirport said that ten people were rushed to a local hospital due to minor injuries.
He later added that:
"The flight from Pristina with airline ALK experienced turbulence in the air around 20 minutes before landing. The pilot alerted handling agents so that the airport firemen were immediately on the scene when the plane arrived."
The viral turbulence video was shot just 20 minutes before the plane landed. Officials somehow claimed that it was expected, but clarified that the flight attendant in the video was in good health. Turbulence is a very common occurrence which is due to a variety of reasons, the most common one being the turbulent air in the atmosphere. Other reasons include turbulence caused by the aircraft's wings.
