South Korean President Moon Jae-in on Tuesday inspected the Daegu area in the midst of a rapid surge in the number of new virus infections.
Moon visited the Daegu Medical Center and held a meeting with officials at the disaster control and safety center.
He said the government had initiated a "full-scale support system" in the fight against the virus and the country should see a "clear turning point" in the trend of the number of new cases in the next week.
As of Tuesday, South Korea had the second-most cases in the world with 977 and has had a near 15-fold increase in reported infections in a week, as health workers continue to find batches in Daegu and nearby areas.
