Coffin manufacturers in Spain have been struggling to fulfil demand due to the increasing death toll from the new coronavirus. Deaths in Madrid have almost trebled in the last few weeks according to the Madrid Funeral Services association.

Maria Chao, a director of Chao coffins manufacturer, said her company had delivered 4,000 coffins and other larger producers must have delivered even more.

In recent days the death toll in Spain from the coronavirus outbreak has risen beyond 10,000, with more than 110,000 confirmed cases.

For most people, the new coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks.

For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia and death.
