Suffering a rare condition, woman is unable to hear male voices

A woman in China has been diagnosed with a rare hearing condition, that may almost sound like an excuse, that restricts her from hearing the sound of men's voices, but can easily listen to women's voices.

The woman, Chen, realised that she was not able to hear her boyfriend. The night earlier she had gone to bed experiencing ringing in her ear and nausea. 

It was then confirmed by the doctors after she was rushed to the hospital that Chen can hear woman voices just fine, but when it comes to men, nothing. They were baffled at first by this eccentric condition. 

Chen was diagnosed with reverse-slope hearing loss, that states that she can hear only high frequencies. Doctors believe the cause for this condition could be stress.

This rare condition 'sensorineural hearing loss' persists is 1 out of 13,000 hearing loss sufferers a type caused by inner ear hair cells getting damaged. The detection is difficult with the lack of awareness even by medical professionals. People diagnosed with the condition might find it difficult to comprehend phone conversations, due to lower frequency and are unable to hear a few things like him of the refrigerator. 

According to the World Health Organization, around 466 million people across the world are affected by some kind of hearing loss.

Luckily, Chen recovered and was able to hear her boyfriend again.
