Thailand's King Maha Vajiralongkorn ties the knot with his security chief in surprise ceremony, country welcomes Queen Suthida

As said in a royal statement, the King of Thailand announced that he has married the deputy head of his personal security detail, and given her the title of queen.

As said in a royal statement, the King of Thailand announced that he has married the deputy head of his personal security detail, and given her the title of queen. The 66-year-old King became the constitutional monarch after the death of his much-loved father in 2016. 

A royal statement said: King Vajiralongkorn "has decided to promote General Suthida Vajiralongkorn Na Ayudhya, his royal consort, to become Queen Suthida and she will hold royal title and status as part of the royal family".

Queen Suthida has been King Vajiralongkorn's longtime partner and there have been seeing each other publicly for some time now. However, before this surprise ceremony, their relationship was never officially acknowledged. The footage of the ceremony was showcased on Thai TV channels, and the wedding was attended by many members of the royal family and palace advisers.

Back in 2014, King Vajiralongkorn had appointed now Queen Suthida as the deputy commander of his bodyguard unit. She was previously a flight attendant for Thai Airways. 
Before this wedding, the King has been married and divorced three times. He also has seven children.
