Thief puts gun down to pick up money, clerk grabs it, turns tables

In a video shared on social media, a woman is seen using her presence of mind to get the best of a thief who had attempted to commit a robbery. The video was captured by a surveillance camera. The robber, named Cory Phillips, was taken into custody on October 15. The video received appreciation from the netizens.

The robbery incident

Cory Phillips attempted the robbery on October 14, at a hotel in Paducah, Kentucky. The CCTV footage of the robbery was shared by the Paducah Police Department on their Facebook page. In the video, one can see a masked man with a gun in his hand. He enters the hotel and threatens the woman to hand over the money. Initially, one can see the man behind the counter look for the money. Later, he demands the same from the woman. The woman in a rush threw the money on the counter. The robber gets excited to collect the money, leaving his gun on the counter. While the robber is distracted, the hotel clerk seizes the opportunity of grabbing the gun.

Cory Phillips arrested

The Paducah Police Department had initially posted the video on Facebook, to ask the people to help in identifying the thief. However, Cory Phillips was arrested the very next day for a routine check at the traffic signal. The police officials found stolen items in the back of his car. Global media reported that Cory Phillips was charged with robbery, stealing random items and was sent to the McCracken County Regional Jail.

The video shared on Facebook was appreciated by the Netizens, receiving more than one lakh views. Someone on social media commented that they wanted to listen to the audio of the CCTV footage and interview the brave hotel clerk. The quick response and the calm attitude of the hotel clerk were acknowledged on social media suggesting that she should be given a raise.
