Thunberg effigy hangs from Rome bridge, Mayor calls it 'shameful'

On October 7, the Mayor of Rome, Virginia Spokes criticized and called the act of hanging a mannequin of the teen environment activist, Greta Thunberg from a bridge in Rome, "shameful". It was found in the Italian capital near the airport which was reportedly later removed by the firefighters and local police. The effigy of Thunberg also had a sign saying “Greta IS Your God” along with pigtails which also mirrors the Swedish activist's style. Mayor Spokes also reached out in solidarity to Thunberg's family and friends along with the assurance that their fight and commitment to climate change will not stop.

Greta Thunberg, criticised

The English broadcaster, Piers Morgan criticised the 16-year-old climate activist on October 3. According to him, Thunberg has not done anything for peace, except that she's really angry about climate change. He further condemned her for abusing many adults and also accused of scaring the children. On the contrary, the Swedish activist has been applauded for her speech on climate at the 74th United Nations General Assembly Summit. While several leaders have stood by Thunberg and believed her to be brave for standing up for the environment, some netizens along with certain leaders have also criticized the teenager.

Greta Thunberg and climate change

The Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg drew people's attention across the world after her powerful speech at the United Nations on climate change on September 23. She won the Right Livelihood Award, also known as the 'Alternative Noble Prize'. The 16-year old reportedly skipped school to sit outside the Swedish Parliament in defiance to protest about global warming. She promptly called the demonstration a ‘School strike for the climate'.
