Trinidad and Tobago president remembers UK Queen

Paula-Mae Weekes, the president of Trinidad and Tobago described that her meeting with the late Queen Elizabeth II felt "like meeting with an old familiar".

She acknowledged that many  Caribebean nations expressed the will to end ties with the monarchy.

"There is a feeling now, after all these years, that the sovereign should really be the people, and that to have a sovereign from a country that is far removed, not only geographically but culturally, might not necessarily be the best thing at this time of the nations' development" said Paula-Mae Weekes.

The president described how she believes that she will be emotional during the funeral.

"I really would have to carry my handkerchief with me because it's quite possible that I may shed a tear for the queen." she said

She is one of 500 world leaders and royals invited to the queen's state funeral Monday, along with hundreds of dignitaries, politicians, military veterans and British charity workers.
