British Foreign Minister Dominic Raab was in Ankara on Tuesday to meet his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu.

The pair were to hold bilateral talks.

Turkey announced on Thursday it was easing restrictions on those wishing to cross into Europe, leading a wave of thousands of people to mass along its western frontier.

Turkey's announcement upended its previous policy of containing refugees and other migrants under an agreement with the European Union, in which the EU would provide billions in funding for the care of refugees within Turkey.

The announcement marked a dramatic departure from the current policy and an apparent attempt to pressure the European Union, which Britain is leaving, to help Ankara handle the fallout from the war in Syria.
