UK Prime Minister Theresa May extends her deepest sympathies to the victims of Colombo serial blasts, sends out a message of solidarity

Following the eight tragic blasts in Sri Lanka on Sunday where 185 people are reported to be killed and nearly 400 injured, UK Prime Minister Theresa May issued a tweet condemning the bombings and extended deepest sympathies.

Following the eight tragic blasts in Sri Lanka on Sunday where 185 people are reported to be killed and nearly 400 injured, UK Prime Minister Theresa May issued a tweet condemning the bombings and extended deepest sympathies.

In her tweet, May sends out a message to the people to stand in solidarity. Here is what the UK PM wrote:

Commencing at around 8.45am (IST), three churches- St Anthony's Church in Colombo, St Sebastian's Church in the western coastal town of Negombo and another church in the eastern town of Batticaloa and three hotels the Shangrila, the Cinnamon Grand, and the Kingsbury were targeted in the terrorist bombings.

Following the disruption caused there, two more blasts in Dematagoda and Dehiwala were witnessed as the Easter Sunday masses were in progress.

Meanwhile, Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena has chaired a high-level security meeting pertaining to the attacks and government has declared a curfew with immediate effect with no clarity as to when will it be lifted.

Earlier the Sri Lanka Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe issued a statement, extending support to the people of the country. He also warned to not spread false reports regarding the blasts.

Extending support to the bereaved nation, Indian PM Narendra Modi also shared his remarks on the horrifying blasts and offered prayers to the families of the victims and injured. He further stated that India stands in solidarity with the people of Sri Lanka.
