Ukraine: 2 killed after grenade explodes in capital city, 1 injured

A grenade explosion in Ukraine's capital downtown Kyiv on October 22 killed two men and injured a woman, as reported by a news agency. The explosion took place when two men played with something that looked like a hand grenade next to a cafe and mishandle that object, according to the media reports. Security forces and ambulance have been deployed at the blast scene and an investigation will take place. The woman who got injured in the explosion has been taken to a hospital for treatment.

Blast took place at 11 pm 

Police have reportedly said that the blast had taken place around 11 pm as per Ukraine timing. The two people who got killed are a Donbas war veteran and a security guard from a nearby office space. The woman who has been injured in the explosion was about 30 meters away from the site of the incident. The Kyiv deputy police chief Herman Prystupa says that the war veterans who lost his life was born in the 1966 and had been on active duty in Donbas war zone since the year 2014. The other man who was killed in the explosion was around 43 years old. They have examined footage of the scene, where they say that the two men were seen speaking to each other before the explosion. However, he did not provide any additional information regarding it.

Witnesses report the incidents

A local media outlet published a report online where they added the pictures and video clips of the explosion. Calling it a serious explosion, the outlet also mentioned that two men have lost their lives in it. The witnesses have reported that the two men who have died in the blast were seen chatting outside a bar casually with no indications of a dispute between them. The two men were allegedly examining the hand grenade which caused the explosion according to the media reports. The man with grenade was holding it with his right hand. Witnesses said that they heard a sound which was like a smashed balloon following which the blast occurred. A woman who was passing by from the area also suffered injuries due to the blast. The police, forensic experts, doctors and other security forces are present at the site. They shared pictures of the blast spot which has been sealed by the police with multiple security vehicles parked over there.
