A new U.N. General Assembly report shows that the opportunity to prevent the army from entrenching its rule could be narrowing, and it's urgent that regional and international countries help put Myanmar back on the path to democratic reform.
Since the military takeover, according to the U.N., security forces have engaged in wide-ranging and brutal repression of pro-democracy protesters.
Andrew Kirkwood, United Nations Office for Project Services Myanmar Director, says they are on the ground providing aid but cannot deliver assistance to all the three million people in need.
