Dr Sasa, Myanmar's special envoy to the UN representing the disbanded parliament of Myanmar, on Saturday said "the world has to act before it's too late," as the country's junta continued to used violence to try to suppress protests.

"They are determined to kill as many people as possible,"  Dr Sasa said, speaking British broadcaster Sky News News from an unknown location.

Dr Sasa, who fled Myanmar on 1 February, the day of the military coup, thanked the US and Britain for announcing tough sanctions against two holding companies that provide financial sustenance for the army regime.

Dr Sasa said the Myanmar military was guilty of war crimes and crimes against humanity, and that there could be no dialogue with the military generals unless they stopped killing civilians.

The toll of protesters confirmed killed in Myanmar since last month’s takeover has reached 328, said the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners, a group that documents deaths and arrests.

It has cautioned that its tally includes only verified cases, with the actual number of casualties "likely much higher."

It said eight people were killed Friday.
