Work inside the UN headquarters in New York resumed Tuesday, after the intergovernmental organization took all of its programming, including its Security Council meetings, virtual as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Representatives and staff last met in-person on March 12 but "virtual meetings cannot really replace in-person diplomacies," Germany representative to the UN and UN Security Council President for the month of July Christoph Heusgen told media.

The agenda Tuesday included votes on the annual UN security council report assembled by the Russian delegation, as well as discussions on youth, peace and security; as well as the Peace process in Colombia.

When asked why Colombia would be the first major topic discussed, Heusgen said that "Colombia and the peace process is a source of inspiration for all those working on settlements of conflicts around the world."

"This is a topic where the security council is really united," he later added.
