Hundreds of migrants have settled a makeshift camp outside the Venezuelan Embassy in Chile's capital of Santiago.

Approximately 300 Venezuelans have been waiting for their embassy to respond to their calls for help to return home, all the while surviving off the charity of local residents who provide them with some food.

Some migrants have been enduring this situation for more than 20 days.

The virus lockdown measures in Chile, and the closure of borders, have left many migrants stranded and without any option to make money to survive.

At the Peruvian Consulate, a group of almost 30 Peruvian citizens are in a similar situation, without a home or a job and waiting for a response from their government. In both cases, they hope to return to their respective countries as soon as possible.

Chile has reported more than 48,000 coronavirus cases and 423 deaths so far,  according government official information.
