A restaurant's CCTV footage has exposed a diner who faked choking on her food and foiled a potentially petty plot. The incident happened recently in Newbridge, Ireland.

In footage from the Judge Roy Beans Bar and Steak House, a woman appeared to place a piece of broken glass in her mouth before pretending to choke, with the unbelievable video in handy when it came to proving that her actions were deliberate. The curious scene appears to show the woman reaching for something in her top and pulling it out before placing it in her mouth. Soon, she begins to choke and her companion can be seen rushing to help her.

After the drama, wherein the unnamed woman complained of choking on broken glass pieces that she claimed were in her food, she was cornered because of the CCTV footage. Talking to the media, restaurant owner Vivian Carroll said that it was clear from the footage that she had deliberately placed the glass pieces in her mouth before telling a member of the staff that it was in her food.

The staff, however, one step ahead, informed the woman about the proof they had. The Gardai (Irish Police) were called in and took her details and she was allowed to go. Even so, Carroll said that she feared of a possible heavy claim if the security cameras were not in place.

The footage was shared on YouTube by the Vintners' Federation of Ireland, and it has been viewed over 20,000 times.

Padraig Cirbben, Chief Executive of Vintner's Federation of Ireland, slammed the incident and said that people these days misuse the whole idea of insurance claims which is somehow supported by the legal sector and facilitated by the insurers who settle dubious claims.

Earlier in March, a man in China was arrested for placing a dead rat in his food to blackmail a restaurant.
