'What is the point of all this meaningless violence?’, Alia Bhatt is 'heartbroken' as she raises questions on Sri Lanka blasts

Numerous questions come to our mind when a terrorist attack like the one that was witnessed in Sri Lanka took place on Sunday. And that was the case with Alia Bhatt too as she shared her grief about the blasts in Colombo asking why innocent lives have to die in meaningless violence and how the same effort could have worked wonders in uniting the world rather than dividing it.

Taking to Twitter, Alia wrote, “Heartbroken at the news from Sri Lanka. Why do innocent people have to die? What is the point of all this meaningless violence? If only all this energy went into bringing peace, it would unite the world rather than dividing it.” 

Earlier, numerous other celebrities like Vicky Kaushal, Anushka Sharma, Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, too had tweeted their condolences to the affected families. Celebrities from the sports fraternity had also expressed their grief on social media.

Nearly 500 people have been injured in the blasts, police said.

The blasts, including suicide attacks, struck churches and luxury hotels frequented by foreigners in Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday, killing 215 people and shattering a decade of peace in the island nation since the end of the brutal civil war with the LTTE.

Explosions were reported from three five-star hotels - the Shangri-La, the Cinnamon Grand and the Kingsbury in Colombo.

Security has been intensified around the religious places across the capital. The government has temporarily blocked all social media platforms.

Earlier, Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe addressed the media and said 'action will be taken to stop the activity of all extremist groups in the country. Social media would be temporarily banned with 12-hour curfew from 6 pm to 6 am.'
