Hospital officials met with wounded victims of an attack at a police base in northern Afghanistan which killed at least 11 people. The officials visited Baghlan Hospital where the victims were taken following Monday's attack in Baghlan province.

Taliban militants had attacked the police base and were apparently able to breach the compound with ease because a sympathetic police officer opened a door for them, according to local government officials. Those details were provided by Mabobullah Ghafari, a provincial councilman in Baghlan province where the attack took place.

A local police official, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not allowed to brief reporters about the attack, also gave the same account. No group immediately claimed responsibility for Monday's attack on the outskirts of Puli Khumri, Baghlan's provincial capital.
