A cruise ship carrying the bodies of four passengers who died from the coronavirus has been allowed to use the Panama Canal to travel to Europe. The Zaandam, currently docked off the coast of Panama, was carrying hundreds of passengers, four of which have died, and two of which have been diagnosed with the virus.

130 other passengers were showing flu-like symptoms, according to the Zaandam's owner, Holland America.

The vessel had been previously denied passage through the canal, but Panama's government changed its position and allowed the cruise to pass through considering the health risks the people faced on board the ship.

Healthy passengers were transferred to the Rotterdam, also owned by Holland America. There were 1,243 guests and 586 crew on board the Zaandam.
