A barrage of missiles struck Kherson on Thursday, killing four people and injuring 10 others, according to the Ukrainian army.

The latest attacks mark an escalation of hostilities by Russian forces on the recently recaptured city in southern Ukraine.

Governor Yaroslav Yanushevich said Russian missiles rained down on the city around 17:00 local time, striking a children's playground and several residential buildings.

A video released by Yanushevich shows civilians on a bus being told by the governor that they will be provided with support and evacuated if needed.

Similar to many regions of Ukraine, Kherson has been plunged into darkness by a Russian bombing campaign of the country's energy infrastructure.
