A top Chilean official for the presidency praised Chile's electoral processes ahead of Sunday's Constitutional plebiscite and said authorities will recognize the results.

Cristian Monckeberg, Ministry General Secretary of Chile's Presidency, visited the National Stadium in Santiago on Saturday to oversee the sanitization process.

"Winners are recognized by those who lost and for the same reasons we believe that tomorrow will be no exception," Monckeberg said.

Monckeberg also said the vote will shape Chile's politics for decades to come.

"Citizens (will have) the decision to create an institutional route that will guide the constitutional rules for the next 50, 60, or 70 years," he said.

Authorities are trying to reassure the population to have confidence in the efforts made to avoid the spread of the new coronavirus, a factor they hope doesn't drive people away from the polls.

In the largest precinct to vote in Chile, the National Stadium where up to 52,000 people will vote, workers will clean thoroughly during the day of voting.

On Sunday, 14.8 million people will be asked if the constitution should be replaced; and secondly, if the current Congress or other citizens should write the new text.
