A British Afghan tailor who fled Afghanistan 20 years ago spoke on Friday about his fears for the remaining family members who are still in the country, and his hopes that they will be allowed entry to the U.K.

Visibly emotional, Najib Afzali told U.K. broadcaster Sky that he was worried for his family members who have not been able to escape.

"I think they're just going to straight away execute them," he said.

During the interview Afzali played aloud a conversation with a family member who pleaded for assistance.

"Please help us. Please rescue us. We are not safe in Afghanistan," the unnamed woman said.

The Afghan tailor has settled in the Greater Manchester area after he fled two decades previously after suffering at the hands of the Taliban, and spoke of his hopes that the British government would allow his family into the U.K.

"When I was in this desperate situation 20 years ago they accepted me, and I'm hoping they accept my family as well."

Flights bringing U.K. citizens and Afghans ended on Saturday.

Britain says it has evacuated more than 14,500 people from Kabul in the past two weeks, but that as many as 1,000 Afghans entitled to come to the U.K. have been left behind.
