UK Chancellor Rishi Sunak said Sunday he believes the upcoming COP26 United Nations climate conference hosted by Britain will be a "big success."

Sunak highlighted the increasing number of countries committing to targets to reduce their carbon emissions, saying 80% of the global economy now had goals to reduce greenhouse gases now in place.

"I think that's actually a great success story before we've even got to the summit in Glasgow," he added.

Sunak said he will be hosting finance ministers and global companies during the summit, which will run from October 31 to November 12, who were "committed to transforming our financial system" to be more sustainable.

COP26 in Glasgow is being described as "the world's last best chance" to prevent global warming from reaching dangerous levels.

The summit is expected to see a flurry of new commitments from governments and businesses to reduce their emissions of greenhouse gases.
