UK Government's sports minister Nigel Huddleston insisted on Thursday that the scenes of hooliganism which marred the Euro 2020 final at Wembley between England and Italy would not have a detrimental effect on England staging the World Cup.

Authorities are weighing up a bid to stage the tournament in 2030 but there area fears that the trouble will negatively affect England's chances.

But Mr Huddleston - speaking before a committee of MPs - said there had been discussions with football authorities and claimed that the violent scenes would not end a bid.
