Marring pride month - which is currently being celebrated around the world, a lesbian couple was attacked on a London bus when they refused to kiss each other when asked by a gang of men, according to New York Post. Police have reportedly made arrests in this issue and an investigation is underway.

Melania Geymonat, 28 was accompanied by her American girlfriend Chris when the couple was attacked on their way back from a date by a group who began to harass them on top of a double-decker bus, according to Geymonat who has recounted the incident in a Facebook post.

“We must have kissed or something because these guys came after us,” Geymonat wrote. “I don’t remember if they were already there or if they got on after us. There were at least four of them. They started behaving like hooligans, demanding that we kissed so they could enjoy watching, calling us ‘lesbians’ and describing sexual positions. I don’t remember the whole episode, but the word ‘scissors’ stuck in my mind.”

While she wrote that she tried to diffuse the situation with jokes, it quickly turned ugly when the men resorted to violence.

“The next thing I know is that Chris is in the middle of the bus fighting with them,” she shared. “On an impulse, I went over there only to find her face bleeding and three of them beating her up. The next thing I know is I’m being punched. Suddenly the bus had stopped, the police were there and I was bleeding all over. Our stuff was stolen as well,” she writes.

Condemning the bigotry, she added that what upset her most was that violence had become a common thing and that she was tired of being taken as a sexual object, which had become a norm for her gay friends who were beaten up just because.
