A group of 17 people arrived in Kingston on Tuesday afternoon after they were deported from the UK. Seen carrying bags as some covered their faces, they were sent from the airport to a police unit, and later released.

Originally 50 people were scheduled to fly on the chartered flight that left the UK Tuesday morning, however 25 were prevented from boarding by to a Court of Appeal ruling following a legal dispute between the government and human rights campaigners.

Human rights campaigners, as well as 150 lawmakers, argue they are British and that some were threatened with deportation for minor crimes.

The UK government contends that all deportees are criminals and will appeal against the decision that led to 25 people not being deported. A further 8 never boarded the flight due to new legal developments in their circumstances.
