World's First 360-Degree Infinity Pool to be built atop 55-story tower in London, but it's complicated

While the concept of 360-degree infinite pool sounds intriguing, the possibility of it turning into reality seemed impossible. But now, a company called Compass Pools have taken the initiative of building a death-defying swimming pool in central London, allowing visitors to float over 200 meters above the capital’s skyline.

While the concept of 360-degree infinite pool sounds intriguing, the possibility of it turning into reality seemed impossible until now. But recently a company called Compass Pools have taken the initiative of building a death-defying swimming pool in central London that will allow visitors to float over 200 meters above the capital’s skyline.

Engineers have designed a 600,000-liter pool, named Infinity London, which will sit atop a 55-story building in the city. With transparent floors and sides, it will give swimmers a breathtaking experience of a 360-degree view.

Elaborating on the project, the company on its website revealed that the pool will be made from cast acrylic, a material which transmits light at a similar wavelength to water, instead of glass, to make it look perfectly clear. Its floor will be transparent that will allow visitors to see the swimmers and sky above.

Giving out details about the project, the company in its website wrote, "Death-defying swimming pools are set to become the newest architectural trend in central London, allowing visitors to float over 200 meters above the capital’s skyline. Pool designers at Compass Pools have developed Infinity London, the only building in the world to incorporate a 360-degree infinity pool. The concept, also referred to by the Greek lemniscate symbol (∞), features a 600,000-litre pool built right on top of a 55-storey building."

However, the complex structure has one issue that concerned the architects the most- the entrance. Elaborating on the same, the designers revealed that 'swimmers will access the pool through a rotating spiral staircase based on the door of a submarine, rising from the pool floor when someone wants to get in or out.'

Besides this, the pool will be fitted with several other advanced technical features including a built-in anemometer to monitor the wind speed and a computer controlled building management system which can manage the temperature of the water to avoid overflowing or flooding. Interestingly, it also has a renewable energy twist which as per which the pool’s heating system will use waste energy from the air condition system for the building. As per the designers, the heat produced in AC's of the building will run through a heat exchanger to heat the water for the pool.
