Two Chicago police officers who were shot and wounded after responding to reports of gunfire have been released from the hospital.

The shooting occurred around 7:10 a.m. in an alley on the city's West Side.

Police said the officers were responding to gunfire identified by ShotSpotter, the city's gunshot detection system, when a suspect fired at them.

The officers were in full uniform. Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot said they were "readily identifiable" as police.

Police said the suspect was shot in the leg and had injuries that were not life-threatening.
