A woman in the U.S just won the biggest jackpot of $1.5 billion, but as told by her lawyer, she is choosing to stay anonymous. The winner is a resident of South Carolina who was visiting from Greenville when she passed the KC Market in Simpsonville and that is where she first decided to draw a ticket.

Reportedly, when the woman realised that she was the winner, the morning after the drawing, she claimed that she was in 'complete shock and disbelief'. Her prize, which she opted to take her winnings as a one-time payment of $877,784,124, is the largest jackpot in U.S. history.

After buying the ticket in October 2018, the woman did not claim her prize until just a few weeks before which also lead to massive speculation as to why a winner had chosen not to come forward. The lawyer of the anonymous winner has stated that a part of her winnings will be going to the City of Simpsonville Arts Center, among other charities to "show her appreciation" to South Carolina and Simpsonville,

Few other places the woman would be donating her winnings are:

  • Ronald McDonald House of Charities of Columbia, S.C.
  • One S.C. Fund – for Hurricane Florence Relief
  • In The Middle, Columbia, S.C.
  • American Red Cross Alabama Region - Tornado Relief Fund
