Airplane's engine cover rips off mid-air, pilot makes emergency landing

A Frontier Airlines flight, which took off for Tampa at 7:12 a.m., was quickly turned around and landed safely at Las Vegas’ McCarran International Airport at 7:27 a.m. as engine cover ripped off their plane while mid-air.

A Frontier Airlines flight, which took off for Tampa at 7:12 a.m., was quickly turned around and landed safely at Las Vegas’ McCarran International Airport at 7:27 a.m. as engine cover ripped off their plane while mid-air. As per the statement from Frontier airline, the pilot turned the Airbus 320 around immediately and returned to Las Vegas safely with the operational engine.

“Our pilots followed procedure and immediately returned to the airport. The engine continued to operate normally and the aircraft, an Airbus 320, landed safely. Safety is our top priority at Frontier Airlines and we would like to acknowledge the professionalism of our pilots and flight attendants,” Frontier spokeswoman Allison Redmon said while addressing the media.

A passenger traveling on the flight, Estela Ponce, said about the incident, "The announcement was made by the flight attendant in the most reassuring calm manner telling us that the captain would be returning to the airport. There was a chance we would have to make an emergency landing."

The airline offered its passengers a $500, that is approximately Rs 35000, voucher to be used on their next booking and complimentary breakfast.
