The lawyer representing the mother of George Floyd's daughter said on Wednesday his client would liked to have seen a first-degree murder charge against the Minneapolis police officer accused of pressing his knee against Floyd's neck.

Prosecutors charged Derek Chauvin with second-degree murder, and for the first time are levelling charges against three other officers who were present when he died.

Justin Miller, who represents Roxie Washington - the mother of Floyd's daughter - said "of course we'd like to see more, but I believe they charged what they thought they can prove."

He also said charges against the three other officers was a "good start."

Miller, who spoke at a memorial for Floyd in Minneapolis, added a civil lawsuit would be filed in the case.
