Former U.S. Vice President Joe Biden criticized President Donald Trump's response to the coronavirus on Sunday, during an interview with NBC's "Meet the Press."

Biden told NBC host Chuck Todd that there are things he would do differently to respond to the crisis.

He said he would use the Defense Production Act to make sure private companies produce ventilators and protective equipment for medical workers. "Why are we waiting? We know they're needed. They're going to be increasingly needed."

Biden also said the federal response has been too slow, he would not say, when asked by Todd, that President Trump "has blood on his hands."

"I think that's a little too harsh," Biden replied, adding "he should stop thinking out loud and start thinking deeply. He should start listening to the scientists before he speaks."

Biden also said voting-by-mail should be considered an option if COVID-19 is still keeping people in their homes as the November election draws near.

"I think we should be looking to all mail ballots across the board to begin with because it's an easier way for people to vote."
