Chicago will have a muted Fourth of July celebration this weekend, with no fireworks, as the city continues to urge social distancing amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mayor Lori Lightfoot is warning bars and restaurants, now under orders to restrict capacity, that she will take stronger action if the rules aren't followed and large crowds are allowed to congregate.
"Business owners, your fate is in your hands. I don't want to have to shut you down, but if you make me, I will," Lightfoot said
The city's parks and lake front will be open, as long as people socially distance. Beaches are closed.
Lightfoot also says it's "all hands on deck" in an effort to prevent shootings, with an additional 1,200 police officers on the streets each day this weekend.
