As of now, former US President Donald Trump is the only person who has declared he will contest in the 2024 US elections. Soon after the announcement, Donald Trump landed up in trouble over a dinner with Nick Fuentes, who is a far-right anti-semite, according to US publications. Now, Trump is attempting to pour water on the controversy and focus on the 2024 US elections.

According to a report from Politico, he will be meeting with Jewish Orthodox groups, to ensure that this one controversy does not derail his campaign. Trump has also laid out a plan, detailing how he will tackle censorship if he becomes US President for the 2nd time. Trump announced his plan on Truth Social. He said that he will end the supposed collusion between the federal government and corporations, which is stifling lawful speech, by passing an executive order.

Trump will target Section 230

"I will then ban federal money from being used to label domestic speech as mis- or disinformation," he said, according to a report by Newsweek. Trump has said that his focus will be on Section 230. What is Section 230? Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act is a provision of United States law that provides immunity from liability for internet service providers and interactive computer service providers (such as social media companies) for content created by third parties. Essentially, it means that these companies cannot be held legally responsible for the content that users post on their platforms.

There are a few key aspects of Section 230 that are important to understand. First, it provides immunity from civil liability, which means that social media companies cannot be sued for content that is posted by users. This immunity applies to a wide range of legal claims, including defamation, invasion of privacy, and other tort claims.

Second, Section 230 provides immunity from criminal liability, which means that social media companies cannot be prosecuted for criminal offenses based on the content that users post on their platforms. This immunity is more limited than the civil immunity, and only applies to certain types of criminal offenses, such as obscenity and child pornography.

Trump has said that he will ask the Congress to reexamine Section 230. He said that social media firms will be eligible for immunity only when they "meet high standards of neutrality, transparency, fairness and nondiscrimination."
