On September 3, the island chain of the Bahamas suffered massive flooding and powerful winds due to the Category 5 storm brought by Hurricane Dorian. The National Hurricane Center shared the snaps captured by the Air force officials on Twitter. The pictures of Hurricane Dorian shaping into a stadium with inside walls revealed the strength and massive power of the storm.

Stadium Effect

The effect of Hurricane Dorian is attributed as the “Stadium Effect”. The Stadium effect is a phenomenon which usually occurs in storms where the clouds surrounding the eyewall bend outwards due to weight, this gives the eye an appearance of an open dome which looks like a sports stadium. Hence the scientists at the National Hurricane Center termed it as the “Stadium Effect”. The planes from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration flew into the hurricane to capture the stunning pictures and accumulate information to help forecast and gauge the storm. The team of NOAA, are better known as the “Hurricane Hunters” who performed the shoot.
