A firefighter who responded to George Floyd's scene on May 25, 2020 took to the stand Thursday in the trial of former Minneapolis police officer in George Floyd's death.

Jeremy Norton described the confusion that day.

"The call (call to the fire crew to be at the scene) was confusing because we do not have a lot of information, so I did not have a patient description, I did not have anything else. And so, I was essentially, yes, looking on the floor for someone," Norton said.

He also detailed how he met Genevieve Hansen, an off-duty firefighter and trained EMT that day.

Hansen testified earlier this week that she wanted to help Floyd that day, but the officers didn't let her saying, "This human (Floyd) was denied that."

During his testimony, Norton said, "When I spoke with her (Genevieve Hansen) on the scene, I had no understanding of the cause of her distress. So, once we got in the ambulance and I saw the severity of Mr. Floyds condition and the gravity, I was able to infer or put together what she had been talking about. And I understood the justification for her duress."

Chauvin, 45, is charged with murder and manslaughter, accused of killing Floyd by kneeling on the 46-year-old Black man's neck for 9 minutes, 29 seconds, as he lay face-down in handcuffs, accused of passing a counterfeit $20 bill at a neighborhood market.
