Trump praised PM Narendra Modi for his 'pro-growth reform' initiatives and prospering of India under his leadership during his speech at 'Howdy, Modi!' event

After a grand introduction by PM Narendra Modi, United States President Donald Trump on Sunday addressed the gathering at the 'Howdy, Modi!' event. In his speech, President Trump celebrated the India-US relationship and said that together the countries will deepen their ties. Key aspects of his speech were the growth of defence relations between the two nations, strengthening of trade relations. President Trump also praised PM Narendra Modi for his 'pro-growth reform' initiatives and the prospering of India under his leadership.

'PM Modi doing an exceptional job'

"I am so thrilled to be here with one of America's most loyal friends, the Prime Minister Modi of India.  And PM Modi is truly doing an exceptional job for India and for all of Indian people. It is truly my priviledge to be here today. Respectfully grateful to be joined by over 50,000 thriving, prospering and hardworking Indian community.

"Just a few months ago, 600 million Indians went to polls and voted overwhelmingly for PM Modi. Congratulations Mr Modi. That's a lot of people. Earlier this week you also marked a milestone. I hope everyone joins me in wishing you a very happy Birthday.

'My administration is fighting for Indian Americans'

"I have also come to express my gratitude to the Indian Americans all across our country. you uphold our values. You are proud to be Americans and we are proud to have you as Americans. I want you to know that my administration is fightiung for you every day.

'India has a great friend in me as the President'

President Trump said reminded the audience of his poll promise of bringing significane to US relation with India. Here's what he said.

"In my campaign for President, I promised if elected India would have a true and great friend in the White House I can tell that you never had a better friend in a President than President Donald Trump. The Prime Minister knows that.

'India thriving under PM Modi'

President Trump said that India and US were prospering owing to the leaderships of the respective nations. He spoke about 300 million people being lifted out of poverty with the help of  pro-growth reforms.

"Under PM Modi's leadership, the world is witnessing a strong, sovereign and thriving India under PM Modi, says Donald Trump . In a single decade with the help of PM Modi's pro-growth reforms, India has lifted about 300 million people out of poverty. That's an incredible number. In the next decade, 140 million households will rise to the middle class.  

"We are seeing something really remarkable in US and India, our people are prospering like never before because we are slashing job-killing red tape Thanks to our massive tax cuts, our economy has been breaking records one after another. Since my election, we have created 6 million new jobs, over 750,000 jobs in Texas.  Unemployment in Texas is currently at the lowest rate ever recorded. The unemployment rate in Indian-Americans dropped by nearly 33.13%.

'India-US trade relations'

President Trump also teased the audience saying that he would visit India for an NBA game. Announcing that India will have access to the standard of basketball games similiar to those played in the US, he said might just visit the country for one of the games.

"India has never invested in the US as it is doing today and it is reciprocal. We are doing the same there in India. Very soon India will have to access to another world class American product-NBA basketball. Wow, sounds good. Next week thousands in Mumbai will watch the first ever NBA game in India. Am I invited, Mr Prime Minister? I may come, be careful I may come.

Donald Trump on India-US Defence relations 

Trump expounded on the defence relations between India and US. He stated that both the countries have commitment to work to protect civilians from the threat of radical Islamic terrorism. He also spoke about the defence deals between the both countries.

"Today, we honour all of the brave American and Indian military service members who work together to safeguard our freedom. We are committed to protecting innocent civilians from the threat of radical Islamic terrorism. In November, the United States in India will demonstrate the progress of our Defence relations holding first-ever tri-services military exercise called the Tiger Triumph. Good name, very good name.

"...We are committed to protect civilians against radical Islamic terrorism. India and the US understand that to keep our community safe we must protect our borders ...border security is vital to US, it is vital to India and we understand that."
