Pittsburgh: Dog lost since 2007 found miles away, owner stunned

A dog breed 'toy fox terrier' who was missing since 2007 from its family's South Florida home was found this week over a thousand miles away in Pittsburgh and reunited with its owner on October 11. According to the Humane Animal Rescue, the 14-year-old dog named Dutchess was found starving, shivering, and in serious need of a nail trim under a shed on Monday.
The owner of the property took the dog to a nearby Humane Animal Rescue location, where the staffers of the rescue center were able to identify a microchip and trace the dog back to its owners in Boca Raton, Florida. Katheryn Strang, the dog's owner drove all the way to Pittsburgh to get the dog.

Owner stunned to find the dog alive

Boca Raton, Florida is situated about 1130 miles (1818 kilometers) from Pittsburgh. Strang said that she was stunned and could not realize that she got the call that her dog had been found after so many years. She added that her son opened the door after school one day and the dog got out and they were unable to find her again. During that time the family was residing in Orlando near a very busy street and they assumed that the dog was either hit or scooped up by someone.

Strang checked the shelters daily for the following weeks after Dutchess went missing. She continued to pay yearly fees for the microchip as well as kept updating her contact information whenever she shifted. After reuniting with Dutchess she said at a news conference that dogs are like our babies and we should not give up hope. She kissed and embraced her long lost pet and murmured to the dog asking where has it been for so many days.

The dog was toy fox terrier

The Toy Fox Terrier is a small terrier breed of dog, directly descended from the larger Fox Terrier but considered a separate breed. Toy Fox Terriers are small dogs with a muscular and athletic appearance. Notable characteristic traits include a short glossy and predominantly white coat, coupled with a predominantly solid head, and a short, high-set tail. The breed has been deemed elegant and graceful with V-shaped ears and large eyes.
