Maryland has converted three vehicle emissions inspection program centers into drive-thru testing sites for the coronavirus.

The state announced Tuesday that only those who have orders from a health care provider and have made appointments will be tested.

The sites officially opened on Wednesday in Anne Arundel, Charles and Harford counties.

Gov. Larry Hogan says the state is opening the sites to keep pace with the demand for testing. Hogan says Maryland is like every other state in the nation and simply doesn't have enough testing supplies.

For most people, the new coronavirus causes only mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough. For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia. The vast majority of people recover from the new virus.
