An appointment only testing site for COVID-19 opened on Monday March 30 at FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland.

Sections of the parking lot surrounding the football stadium, where the NFL's Washington Redskins play, were roped off and large medical tents had been set up.

A large presence of medical staff and members of the Maryland National Guard were ready to start screening sick patients at 10 a.m. Monday.

The process for getting an appointment at the COVID-19 testing site starts with a telehealth visit.

With a doctor's permission, patients can go to the testing site at a designated time, but COVID-19 tests are only guaranteed for conditions that fall under strict CDC guidelines.

For most people COVID-19 only causes mild symptoms. While the vast majority of patients recover, some people, usually those with other medical complications, develop more severe symptoms, including pneumonia, which can be fatal.
