The U.S. National menorah was lit in front of the White House Sunday for the first night of Hanukkah.

U.S. Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff attended the lighting ceremony.

The second gentleman is the first Jewish spouse of a U.S. president or a vice president.

Earlier this month Vice President Kamala Harris and her husband Emhoff become the first in American history to affix a mezuzah to an executive residence.

In March, Emhoff led the White House's first Passover event.
