Residents of a neighborhood in New York continued clean-up operations on Saturday following the destruction caused by Hurricane Ida.

Workers in a neighborhood in Queens removed debris from damaged apartments after the adverse weather devastated homes and buildings in the community.

Two people in the neighborhood, mother and son Tara Ramskriet and Nick Ramskriet, died while trying to escape their basement apartment.

A vigil was put up in the street to pay tribute to the pair as neighbors helped and comforted each other in the aftermath of the tragedy.

Flood-stricken families and business owners across the Northeast were hauling waterlogged belongings to the curb on Saturday and scraping away noxious mud as cleanup from the deadly remnants of Hurricane Ida moved into high gear.

The  White House said President Joe Biden will survey storm damage in New York City and Manville, New Jersey, on Tuesday.
