Republican Sen. Kelly Loeffler says she is no longer supporting GOP efforts to overturn Democrat Joe Biden's presidential election victory after Wednesday's attack on the Capitol by violent crowds of President Donald Trump's supporters.

The Georgia lawmaker says she "cannot now in good conscience object" to electoral votes cast by some states for Biden. Loeffler spoke shortly after the pro-Trump mob ran rampant in the Capitol.

She spoke a day after she lost a runoff election that, along with the defeat of her former GOP colleague, David Perdue, will give Democrats Senate control. Loeffler had been expected to challenge Biden's slender victory for Georgia's 16 electoral votes.
