Paramedic called to George Floyd scene testifies

Seth Bravinder, one of the two paramedics called to the scene of George Floyd's fatal encounter with Minneapolis police, testified that they first got a Code 2 call, for someone with a mouth injury, then it was upgraded just a minute and a half later to Code 3 – a life-threatening incident that caused them to activate lights and siren.

He said when they arrived, he saw no signs that Floyd was breathing or moving.

He said it appeared Floyd was in cardiac arrest.

Bravinder said they loaded Floyd into the ambulance so he could get care "in an optimum environment," but he also said the paramedics wanted to get away from the scene.

"There was also a crowd of people that appeared very upset on the sidewalk, there was some yelling and stuff," Bravinder said. "In my mind at least, we wanted to get away from that."

Earlier George Floyd's girlfriend testified through tears Thursday about how they prayed together the first time they met in 2017 at a Salvation Army shelter where her son's father was staying and Floyd was a security guard.

Derek Chauvin, 45, is charged with murder and manslaughter, accused of killing Floyd by kneeling on the 46-year-old Black man's neck for 9 minutes, 29 seconds, as he lay face-down in handcuffs last May.

The most serious charge against the now-fired white officer carries up to 40 years in prison.
