People in small boat detained on S. California coast

A small boat carrying several people washed up along a Southern California shoreline Thursday morning, according to local media reports.

At least 12 undocumented individuals were detained from the boat, KABC-TV reported.

Rescue crews responded to the vessel in Rancho Palos Verdes, about 31 miles south of Los Angeles, according to a social media post from Los Angeles County Fire Department Lifeguards service.

Earlier this year, three people died when a smuggling boat broke apart in the surf near San Diego.
