New York City police officers lined the streets in salute to honor the death of a fellow cop who was fatally struck by a hit-and-run driver on Tuesday as he was directing traffic away from the scene of an earlier fatal crash.

Police Commissioner Dermot Shea says 43-year-old Officer Anastasios Tsakos was on the Long Island Expressway in Queens at about 2 a.m. Tuesday when he was struck by a car driven by a woman who was intoxicated and driving with a suspended license.

Jessica Beauvais, of Hempstead, was arrested on charges including vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated. It's not clear if she has an attorney who can comment on the charges.
