U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Sunday vowed to continue to put pressure on Iran to prevent them from obtaining nuclear weapons.

Speaking via webcast to the online American Jewish Committee (AJC) forum, Pompeo called the Islamic Republic of Iran "the world's number one state sponsor of anti-Semitism", and reiterated the Trump Administration's decision to pull out of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action Iran nuclear deal.

He praised Israel for pushing for "adoption and implementation of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance's definition of anti-Semitism", and called President Donald Trump's Middle East peace plan "most realistic path to end the conflict for the good of both Israeli and Palestinian people".

The plan was criticised and rejected by Palestinian leaders.

The Secretary of State also criticised China for what he called "reckless indifference to its internal obligations and disinformation campaigns" and "opaque military buildup" which he said "endangers us all".

During the short address, Pompeo also commented on the U.S. State Department Commission's report on inalienable rights, to be released next month.

"It will show how shared principles bring us closer to friends like Israel", he said.

The AJC forum was held online this year due to the ongoing worldwide new coronavirus pandemic.

Other speakers included the Secretary General of the Muslim World League and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
